One of each, 45 compartments, 2017, permanent exhibition, Historisches Museum, Frankfurt
A very full shelf compressed into just 45 compartments. Collaged like still lifes, arranged like little doll houses. A permanent installation, with glass windows and interior lighting. The work is accompanied by a website. There you can view and comment on every single thing, and even add things yourself.
Equal multiples, 2015, Historisches Museum Frankfurt
For the first time such an extensive exhibition in a historic museum and the first contemporary artist to be invited by the hmf. In a space of 220 square meters he exhibition consists of three parts. Six room-high shelves with 140 compartment build the centre of the exhibition. The shelves are accompanied by 18 display cases and one work on the floor and a platform.
One of each, 600 square meters, 2011, Kunsthalle Mainz
The biggest display of the Kunsthalle Mainz to date. Encompassing all three Halls of the Kunsthalle. The objects are sorted by the relation of their usage. The objects are displayed like an ocean. The elevated runway facilitates a different perspective on these familiar seeming objects. A survey of the world which surrounds us.
Museum of Life, 2007, Castle Museum, Norwich, England
This exhibition is a museum version of my collection. It consists of 3 parts in 2 rooms. In the largest room there is a curved stepped platform with large objects on it. In the second room there are walls of shelves with medium-sized objects and in the middle there are table showcases with very small objects. The objects are arranged in the same thematic sequence. Within a state museum, I see my department as the everyday life department.
One of each, in shelves, 1999, Karlsruhe, Hannover, Hamm
The same order can be found in the shelf work.
One of each, 1997/98, Haus der Kunst München, Kulturforum Berlin, Kunstmuseum im Ehrenhof Düsseldorf, PS 1 New York, Henry Art Gallery Seattle
A representative collection of everyday objects grouped thematically and visible from a raised footbridge. Sorted according to their context of use, the objects are laid out to form a kind of sea. This creates a different view of the seemingly familiar objects. They also awaken different stories in everyone.
One Of Each, 1996, EAST, Norwich England
A locally sourced collection of everyday objects, all of which were purchased at flea markets and second-hand dealers within a month. They are grouped thematically based on their context of use and are accessible on grids. A photo wall with diary-like images of the city accompanies the work.
Peters Haus, 1995, Cooper & Leibrand, Frankfurt
The permanent installation within an office complex consists of two parts: a photo wall and a wall display case. The photos explain the origin of the objects in the display case. I see the house as an example of an individual approach to history. The idea of economy is another theme.
Equal multiples, 1995, Jürgen Ponto-Stiftung, Frankfurt
An exhibition of small objects with the same use but different versions: clips, curlers, plugs, erasers, wooden spoons and tools. The presentation in the showcases and the arrangement in the room take a traditional museum form: An accumulation without explanation.
Private room, 1993, Kunstverein, Volxheim
I build an erotic fetish room in an abandoned room. I furnish it according to my ideal vision.
Toothbrushes, 1991, Galerie Hant, Frankfurt
Approximately 1000 toothbrushes are displayed in three showcases. The health department organized a toothbrush swap for the day “Tag der offenen Tür” of the City of Frankfurt. Everyone got a new one in exchange for an old one. I let them give me the old toothbrushes.
